In Loving Memory of Franklin Loew Thompson
May 30, 1997 – April 19, 2025

With heavy hearts, we share the unexpected passing of Franklin Loew Thompson, 27, who left this world far too soon on April 19 in Los Angeles, California. Though his time with us was short, Loew embraced life more fully than many do in a lifetime.

Loew was a seeker of adventure and new experiences. From hiking mountain trails at sunrise to diving into the ocean, he pursued every moment with wide-eyed wonder, curiosity, and a fearless spirit. Born outside of Denver, Colorado, he was raised with a deep love for nature that continued as his family moved cross-country to Fort Mill, South Carolina. Throughout his childhood, he could often be found in the lake or the pool, always drawn to the outdoors. He believed life was meant to be lived under open skies and felt most at peace with the sunshine on his face.

Those who knew Loew will remember his sense of humor, spontaneity, and ability to make friends wherever he went. He had a gift for finding beauty in the everyday and was a passionate, lifelong weather watcher. Music was an integral part of Loew’s life from an early age. He proudly played percussion in the Fort Mill High School band, and when he wasn’t making music, he was sharing it—always eager to introduce others to a new favorite song. He lived generously, and his heart was as expansive as the landscapes he loved.

Loew is preceded in death by his father, Dan Thompson; paternal grandfather, Frank Thompson; and maternal grandparents, Jon and Linda Beard.

He is survived by his mother, Laura Thompson (Marty Hendrix); his sister, Perrin Jones (Taylor); his niece, Leighton; paternal grandmother, Ginger Thompson; and countless friends whose lives were forever brightened by his presence.

Though Loew’s journey on Earth has ended, his spirit lives on in the beauty of nature and the places he held dear. In honor of his memory, we encourage those who knew him to find joy in nature’s small wonders or consider a gift to the Sierra Club. We smile knowing that Loew is already chasing his next great adventure.
